Gateway Support Services for Women and Men

The Gateway Shelter is funded by BC Housing to provide low barrier emergency shelter in the Vernon area for those who are absolute homeless, who may be suffering from economic downturn, addictions and/or mental health challenges.

Any homeless person over the age of 19 is eligible to enter our shelter, depending on availability of space and whether certain basic criteria can be met. While staying at the shelter, residents can access life skills training, employment programs, counseling, 12-step groups, health and legal services through a community network. Gateway is conveniently located in the downtown core across from the Real Canadian Wholesale Store and two short blocks from the Upper Room Mission.

Who can stay at the Gateway Shelter?

The shelter is open to men and women who are at least 19 years old and who are homeless, transient, or temporarily in need of accommodation. Everyone who stays at the shelter is expected to comply with all house rules.

How many spaces are available?

The Gateway Shelter has the capacity for 15 women’s beds and 13 men’s beds.

Operating hours are: 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Admissions

Registration is between 10:00am and 11:00pm

There is no fee for the program. Shelter programs are funded by BC Housing.

Howard House Men’s Shelter: Male clients are eligible to transfer to the Howard House Men’s Shelter when beds become available.
