John Howard staff offer pre-release planning at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre; they can respond to individual requests on a variety of issues or needs including:

• accommodation requests (for after release)
• clothing and glasses requests
• Income tax preparation issues
• I.D. requests
• referrals to outside organizations
• employment support
• education information
• resume preparation
• community resource information

The Society co-ordinates the BCAT (Basic Construction Awareness Training) program which assists inmates in obtaining training and certificates such as Occupational First Aid, WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space/Respiratory Awareness, Back and Ladder Safety to help them find employment upon release.
