BladeRunners employment readiness program

BladeRunners is an award-winning provincial employment training program that has been operating throughout BC for over 20 years.  Since 1994, this program has helped employers fill entry-level positions with motivated young people.  The John Howard Society has been delivering this program in Kelowna since July 2010.

The intent of this program is to provide quality employment readiness training for individuals 16-30 years-old, who face barriers to employment, in an effort to find them meaningful job opportunities. 

What to Expect

BladeRunners runs Monday-Friday for 3 weeks and offers life skills/job readiness workshops and certification.  Workshops cover topics such as budgeting, effective communication, job search & interview techniques, and stress management.  Certification can include:

  • Food Safe                                   WCB First Aid
  • CSTS                                          WHMIS 2015
  • Fall Protection                              Worldhost
  • Serving it Right                            Traffic Control

BladeRunners can also receive additional funding for new tools and clothing to get the new job.  As well employers can be eligible for a wage-subsidy.  There are no costs for participation in this program.

Quick Points

Eligibility: Anyone motivated to find work and:
  • between 16 and 30 years young,
  • out of high-school for 6-months,
  • ineligible for EI.
Referral: Anyone can apply or be referred that fits eligiblity.  See referral form below.
