Letter to the Director - Mar/09

I just wanted to thank you for your support and assistance in arguably one of the most significant periods in my life.

I am graduating from Miracle Valley Treatment Centre on April 1st.  I have put everything I have; mind, body and spirit into this program and through this I have come to an understanding of the happenings of my life that has led me to this point.  More importantly I have gained the tools to heal.  I am using these tools today, and will continue throughout my recovery.  Also I have reconnected with my family and will be moving in with them post treatment.  Also I have looked into returning to school, not Emily Carr, but Substance Abuse Counseling, I believe I can help.  “be the change you want to see in this world…” - Gandhi.  I fell in love with this quote and I will work my hardest to achieve graduation from this program offered at VCC in Vancouver.  Thank You all so very much.  I hope all is well in Vernon and I will be back one day, not as a client, but as a visitor.
Sincerely
Brad A.

Vernon Morning Star - Letter to the Editor - December 2008

I am writing this letter to thank the staff of the John Howard Society's Gateway Shelter and Howard House.

I owe them a debt of of gratitude.

I first went to the Gateway Shelter two months ago, shortly after it opened.  I had exhausted all other means of support because of my drug and alcohol addiction.  The Gateway Shelter took me in and gave me a place to stay, a warm bed and food but most of all, my dignity back.  Gateway arranged a bed at Howard House for me where I’m getting nothing but support from the staff.
I’m now in their drug alcohol and drug program.  I’ve been clean and sober now for 55 days.  I have even quit smoking and attend church on a regular basis.  I’m volunteering my time in the community and attending drug and alcohol programs in the community.  I am grateful for these two shelters and the support they have given me.  They have employment and educational programs and I have enrolled in a computer course.  I’ve also started a 12-Step program to help other addicts.
Thanks again to all the staff at the shelters who have helped me and for their continued support.  There are not enough workds to express just how much they have helped me overcome the barriers of addiction and to become a productive member of society once again.  BOB
